Harriette Preston
I am a Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist with over ten years of experience working with children and adolescents across the age range as well as their families. This has included working within community and inpatient NHS Child and Adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) and secondary schools. These experiences have allowed me to develop a broad range of skills to support children and young people experiencing social, emotional and mental health difficulties, particularly those struggling with attachment, emotional regulation, and those who have experienced trauma.
I am committed to creating a compassionate, non-judgemental therapeutic environment where individuals feel heard and safe. I am mindful that the therapeutic process can evoke lots of different feelings for children and young people as well as parent and carers navigating this time with them. I am therefore passionate about understanding and supporting the family as a whole. I am skilled in adjusting my approach to attune to the unique needs of each individual, and adept at integrating playfulness into the therapeutic process. The focus of my work is on the emotional and relational world, thinking deeply about experiences and how these may have impacted us consciously and unconsciously.
Skills and training
My core clinical training was a six-year training at the Northern School of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy which I completed in 2021. Since then, I have continued to develop my therapeutic skills and deeper understanding of attachment, trauma and how our early years can influence us.
